Dr. Eugene Kramer brings forth the do's and don'ts for avoiding headache.

According to Dr. Kramer, headaches have many causes or triggers which may include food, environmental stimuli like noises, lights, stress etc. and behaviors like insomnia, excessive exercise, changes in the blood sugar etc. To avoid headache, Dr. Eugene Kramer brings forth certain points which if followed can help you avoid headache. He says that if you spend a large amount of time sitting in one position in front of a computer, on sewing machine, typing or reading, a break of 30 minutes to one hour should be taken where you should stretch your head and neck through a comfortable range of notion.

Dr. Eugene Kramer further suggests that you should drink at least eight ounce of water daily to avoid dehydration which can lead to headache. He further opines that teeth clenching should be avoided. The upper teeth should never touch the lowers except when swallowing. This results in stress at the temporomandibular joints (TMJ) - the two joints that connect your jaw to your skull - leading to TMJ irritation and a form of tension headaches. In addition, Dr. Eugene Kramer suggests you to avoid some of the food triggers like caffeine, chocolates, coffee, sodas and cocoa which contain high level of stimulants. According to him, drinking alcoholic beverages should be avoided. These drinks can dehydrate and can cause headache. If the headache still persists, a chiropractor should be consulted. A chiropractor, according to Dr. Eugene Kramer, offers advice on posture, ergonomics (work postures), exercises and relaxation techniques. This advice should help to relieve the recurring joint irritation and tension in the muscles of the neck and upper back.
